Following
their earlier event, Mike Grobbel, president of the Polar Bear Memorial
Association, places a wreath at the Four Freedoms Monument at White
Chapel Memorial Cemetery.
[PBMA note: This wreath laying
continues a tradition begun by the Polar Bear veterans on Memorial Day
of 1949 following the dedication of the Four Freedoms Monument on VJ
Day of the previous year. The remains of 322 WW II war dead were
repartiated from overseas American military cemeteries and reburied
in front of this monument over a ten year period. The
WW I Polar Bear veterans incorporated this wreath laying into their
annual Memorial Day ceremony to honor and remember the next generation
of men and women who gave their lives in serivce to our country.
